Day 2 Constantine Style

It is on Sunday January 2, 2011.  I am sitting on the couch in what should be silence, or a good conversation with my husband, but instead is the sound of Sunday Night Football.  Oh well, I guess you have to make some exceptions to make crazy ideas like getting rid of TV more palatable to people, like my husband who, unlike me, lack a titch of natural craziness.   For Jeff, football was one thing he couldn’t live without.  I come by my craziness completely honestly. I have done crazy things my whole life.  I went skydiving…topless, swam in the English Channel on December 26th (while I kept all my clothes on for this one it was F-ing cold) and  I once loaded my car with all of my meager belongings and drove to Denver without so much as a place to live (yes I was moving there, not just vacationing) so I am certainly a little more crazy than the average bear and as such I do find  it sad, that Jeff cant live without sports for one year, but if I wanted to remain married to him (and I do) I had to give him some sports exemptions so here I am listening to Sunday night football while blogging.  I may have to start suiting up and doing this in the basement on Sundays because I do find the TV even more annoying than usual.  By suiting up I mean wearing my snowsuit, hat mittens, socks and boots because our basement is stinking cold this time of year.

Today was a very productive one.  We finished a myriad of projects that had been sitting around our house in various stages of incompleteness.  We cleaned and organized many areas of our house and as soon as I can figure out how to put photos on this blog I will show you some before and after pictures.  It really is impressive just how much we got done with just one day without TV which makes me feel even better about my insistence to do this crazy challenge.   It really was a bloody battle (using the English meaning of “bloody” not the literal one) between Jeff and me to get this thing off the ground.  Jeff and I argued A LOT about this no TV thing and although he agreed with all of my reasons (waste of time, allows us to not think of better things to do with our time, TV keeps us from developing better relationships with each other, our house was quite messy and could be cleaner if we didnt watch tv every night etc) he still felt he would not be happy without TV.  I really hope that he comes to realize this really is a good thing.  So day two is nearly behind us and other than a few moments when I chose to watch the spartans yesterday (GO GREEN) and my unwillingness to suit up and head to the basement tonight, I have managed to eliminate all television from my daily activities.  We will see how this goes tomorrow when it is just me and three kids all day long!  Good Night~ Veronica (aka Vern)

  1. I remember that trip to Denver. It was in the middle of a Midwest, late-January snowstorm. I would like to think that 24 staight hours in your hatchback together with all of your worldly possessions was a friend-building exercise.
